If you’re looking to capture the flavors of the caribbean in a glass, this Tropical Puerto Rican Sangria Recipe, with Passion Fruit and Rum, is here to make every sip taste like paradise. Packed with tropical fruits and citrus juices, this white sangria recipe is an easy sangria recipe perfect for any gathering. And the best part, it only takes 10 minutes to prepare and three simples steps.

puerto rican sangria recipe in wine glasses

Sangria has traveled far and wide from Spain, becoming one of the best cocktails for its versatility. While a traditional Spanish Sangria recipe might use dry red wine, this white wine sangria uniquely differs, adding a Tropical Puerto Rican touch. A wine punch using fresh fruits, juice, and rum — a nod to the island of Puerto Rico. I love wine-based beverages, and this is a special recipe with a tropical twist. The best sangria cocktail!

This was inspired by my Blackberry Sangria recipe a dark and delicious option for berry lovers, and my Strawberry Watermelon Rosé Sangria - a sweet and fruity take with a rosy twist. Both a delicious twist to traditional sangria!

❤️Why You Will Love This Puerto Rican Sangria

    • Naturally Sweet: No extra sugar added! The fruit juices, soda, and tropical fruits provide all the sweetness you need.
    • Perfect for Hosting: This is the perfect way to create a drink for large parties that is easy to double for big groups.
    • Fruity and Refreshing: With every sip, you get a perfect sangria that combines a fruity wine-based drink with fresh ingredients, making it an ideal summer party choice. Great way to enjoy a refreshing drink with tropical a flair.

    Equipment

To make this Puerto Rican Sangria, you’ll need a cutting board and a knife for preparing the fruits, and a large glass pitcher for mixing and serving.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

I use two of my favorite fruits—mango and pineapple for a tropical touch. But feel free to add your favorites for your personal twist! Just choose fruits that are firm enough not to break apart. Stone fruits like peaches make a great option.

See the Printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for quantities

measured Ingredients for Puerto Rican Sangria recipe

    Key Ingredient Notes

    • Use two Tropical Juices - Pineapple Juice and Passion Fruit Pulp: Passion Fruit juice works, too, if you can’t find the pulp. Just reduce 1/2 to 3/4 cup juice by cooking it until halved.
    • White Wine -  See wine notes below
    • Lemon Soda - Adds fizz! Be sure to add it last just before serving so it doesn’t go flat.
    • Rum- I prefer Dark Rum, but White Rum will work too. A Puerto Rican Rum like Bacardí is traditional, but any will do.
    • Brandy – adds extra depth. I use a small amount of liquor spirits in this recipe, but you can adjust to your preference.
    • Fruits - Orange (sliced), Diced Mango, Pineapple Chunks, and Diced Apples - both Red and Green Apples work for this recipe.
    • Ice Cubes for serving

?Best White Wine for this Tropical Sangria

The best wine choice is the one that you like! There’s no need for anything too fancy when choosing wine for sangria, given how many other ingredients are in sangria.  I like to use dry and fruity, but a semi-sweet wine like Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or even a pink wine like a nice Rosé Wine can work well in this sangria. It really is a personal preference.  AVOID REDS for this recipe.

    How to Make This Sangria

Three simple steps - Dice and mix, refrigerate, and serve.

    1. Prep Time: Dice the mango, apple, and pineapple. In your large pitcher, combine passion fruit pulp and pineapple juice, white wine, rum and brandy. Add the diced fruit and orange slices.
    1. Mix, cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the anticipation to build.
    1. Right before serving, add the lemon soda and ice cubes. The soda adds refreshing fizz, so be sure to pour it in last for the best results. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and orange slices for an extra tropical flair.

Enjoy this fruity and slightly spiked refreshment on a hot day!

    Recipe Variations

You can get creative when preparing Sangria! Here are some swaps and additions:

    • Orange Juice - Swap some of the Pineapple Juice for Orange Juice to add another citrus layer.
    • Add 1/4 cup of Peach Schnapps, or Triple Sec, Grand Marnier, or Cointreau Liqueur for a hint of Orange.
    • Adjust the amount of Wine to your liking if you like a stronger wine taste.
    • For a bit more kick, increase the alcohol content with an extra splash of rum or brandy.

How to Store Sangria (Easy Storage Tips)

    • If you have leftovers, use an airtight container or cover it with plastic wrap to ensure proper storage in the fridge.
    • Refrigerate promptly to avoid spoiling.
    • Store Sangria for 3-4 days, though fresh is best.

How long does Sangria last in the fridge?

In the right storage conditions, this homemade sangria can last about 3-4 days. however, the shelf life of sangria depends on its ingredients. Here’s a rule of thumb:

    • Keep leftover sangria chilled and covered for the best flavor and to avoid air exposure and any color change in the fruit pieces.
    • Typically, citrus fruits and fruit juice last longer, but aim to drink within 48 hours for the freshest fruit flavor.
    • More extended storage might cause off-flavors, such as a fermented fruit flavor.
